Landscape & Maintenance Worker; Full-Time, Benefits

This is a position of skilled manual labor at the journeyman level in several skilled trades. The employee in this position has general construction and maintenance responsibilities for the Fortson 4-H Center located in Hampton, GA. Duties involve performing work, and at times supervising unskilled, or semi-skilled labors. Employee will work under the supervision of the Center Director. Trades include but are not limited to: landscaping, plumbing, electrical fixture replacement, woodworking, drywall work, and painting. Fortson 4-H Center is a primarily youth facility and working around youth is expected.


  • Maintain grounds
  • Daily testing of well water
  • Preventative maintenance on 24 buildings
  • Work order directed maintenance
  • Large project work as time allows
  • Occasionally help around the center with housekeeping and other departments


  • High School Graduate
  • Training and experience in 1 or more skilled trades
  • Pass in-house CPR and First Aid training
  • Preferred to have Class 4 Well Water operator licence; if not at time of hire, must obtain within 12 months of employment start


Food Service Worker; Part-Time, On-Call

This position will be scheduled based on capacity of guests at Fortson 4-H Center. The yearly hours of this position average to about 19 Hours per week, with low demand in winter and high demand in summer. Spring and fall will be closest to the average 19 hours per week.  This position will require early mornings and/or late nights depending on the meal.


  • Serve food in the Dining Hall
  • Interact with customers
  • Clean, wash, and sanitize all work areas and equipment
  • Operate a commercial dish machine
  • Assist in food preparation
  • Occasionally help around the center with housekeeping and other departments


  • Pass in-house food safety training
  • Pass in-house CPR and First Aid training
  • Preferred to have food service experience
  • Preferred to have ServSafe training


Environmental Educator (Spring 2018)

Staff are hired to work for the Spring Environmental Education season which begins in March and ends in late May. There is an opportunity to return for the Fall 2018 season (August-November).


  • Teach interdisciplinary science-based environmental education classes
  • Conduct evening programs
  • Provide leadership to school groups participating in the program
  • Maintain teaching laboratories
  • Other duties as assigned which may include facility maintenance, landscaping, housekeeping, etc.
